A forum entitled "Bulgaria and the Danube Strategy: Investment Opportunities and Economic Potential" opened at the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO) on Tuesday. The idea of the forum is to boost Austrian investors' interest in infrastructural, industrial and tourist projects involving Bulgaria.

Bulgaria is represented at the meeting by 25 companies, and Austria by four times as many. The regions of Pernik and Rousse will be highlighted. The Bulgarian delegation is led by InvestBulgaria Agency Executive Director Borislav Stefanov and includes Pernik Regional Governor Ivo Petrov, Pernik Mayor Rossitsa Yanakieva and Rousse Mayor Bozhidar Yotov.

The Rousse-based transport company Rubinships, which runs an office in Linz, Austria, presented opportunities for freight transport along the Danube River. Pernik Region is represented at the event by heavy mechanical engineering companies, industrial zone operators and the recently inaugurated University of Telecommunications, Computers and Architecture.

The Commercial Counsellor at the Austrian Embassy in Sofia, Michael Angerer, updated the participants on Bulgarian market opportunities and challenges. Boris Metodiev, a Bulgarian working as a freelance lawyer in Austria, spoke about economic law in Bulgaria.

The forum was organized by WKO and the Bulgarian Embassy in Vienna under Bulgaria's EU Communication Strategy.
