The consolidation of the banking sector in Bulgaria is already completed and we may saw Greek banks are very well positioned on the market.

Number one in terms of assets among them is United Bulgarian Bank, controlled by the Greek NBG Group, with a total of 6.52 billion leva (3.33 bln euros), according to data presented by the Bulgarian National Bank.

UBB also has the largest credit portfolio among Greek banks in Bulgaria – 5.43 billion leva (2.77 bln euros).

Number two, by comparison, EFG Eurobank (formerly known as Post Bank) controls assets in the amount of 4.79 billion leva (2.44 bln euros) and the value of its credit portfolio stands at 3.26 billion leva (1.66 bln euros).

Third with 3.6 billion leva (1.84 bln euros) in assets is Piraeus Bank, which according to the data, has been very active in crediting, having provided such in the amount of 3.18 billion leva (1.62 bln euros).

The other two Greek-owned banks in Bulgaria, Alpha Bank and Emporiki Bank, boast more modest figures.

Alpha Bank's assets total 1.65 bln leva (843 mln euros) and the value of its credit portfolio is at 1.38 billion leva (705 mln euros), while Emporiki Bank controls nearly 266 mln leva (136 mln euros) in assets and its credit portfolio is at 224.4 mln leva (114 mln euros).

As far as deposits are concerned, UBB tops the chart again with attracted funds in the amount of 5.7 billion leva (2.9 bln euros). Second is EFG Eurobank with 4.3 bln leva (2.19 bln euros).
