Bank Loans at 52.5 Bln Leva as at End-June
The loans and advances extended by Bulgarian banks came to 52.49 bln leva as at the end of the first half of the year. A total of 22.08 bln leva of the loans are denominated in local currency, while 28.43 bln leva of the loans are euro-denominated. Loans for a total of 1.98 bln leva are extended in other currencies.
Corporate clients whose loans amount to 29.27 bln leva account for the biggest share of the borrowers, followed by retail loans, which stand at 15.45 bln leva (8.3 bln leva consumer loans and 7.15 bln leva mortgage loans) and credit institutions with 6.84 bln leva.
More than 58% of the funding was extended by five banks. These are: UniCredit Bulbank, DSK Bank, UBB, Raiffeisenbank and Eurobank EFG.
Piraeus Bank and First Investment Bank have each extended loans for over 3 bln leva, while SG Expressbank, Alpha Bank, EIBank, KTB, Allizna Bank Bulgaria, CCB and Unionbank have extended loans for over 1 bln leva each.
The total value of the assets in the banking system stood at 65.745 bln leva as at the end of June 2008, which represents an increase of 11% compared to March, as well as 39.24-percent year on year increase.
The combined profit of the banks stood at 728.5 mln leva in the first half of the year, up by 238.19 mln leva (48.57%), compared to the year-ago period.
