The average net salary in the Romanian banking system stands at some RON 3,000 (793.77 euros) and has not changed in the past two years, Business Standard reported, citing data of the National Bank of Romania (NBR).
The explanation given by specialists is that most employees were recruited for entry-level positions, and the largest part of a bank employee's revenue comes from bonuses and premiums.
The average net salary in the banking system amounted to RON 3,026 (some 820 euros) on 1 October 2008, close to the December 2006 level of RON 3,002 (some 880 euros at that time). Meanwhile, the number of employees in the system rose to over 71,500 from 58,000, with most of these working in territorial bank branches.
"Banks recruited many employees for entry-level positions in the past two years, whose monthly salaries do not exceed RON 1,200-1,800 (approximately 317-476 euros). But salaries have increased, even doubled for management positions and specialists in the past two years," according to Alexandru Talmazan, Managing Partner of the Wrightson Romania human resource company.
