In January, inflation rose 0.8 per cent on month and 7.1 per cent on year, the National Statistical Institute said on Friday.

Compared with December, price increases were registered for foods and soft drinks (1.9 per cent), alcohol and tobacco products (0.2 per cent), water, electricity, gas and other fuels, rents and home maintenance (1.2 per cent). Price drops were registered for clothes and footwear (1.5 per cent) and
transport services (2.4 per cent).

As to food prices, the following increases were reported: fish and fish products 1.6 per cent, eggs 1.4 per cent, vegetables 15.6 per cent, fruits 0.9 per cent, fresh and cooked sausages respectively 0.4 per cent and 0.5 per cent, beef 0.8 per cent, minced meat 0.2 per cent.

Decreases were reported for flour and other cereal products 3.0 per cent, bread 0.7 per cent, rice 1.6 per cent, pasta 0.6 per cent, poultry meat 1.2 per cent, cheese 0.6 per cent and vegetable oil 7.5 per cent.
