Parliament Votes Down 2-in-1 Elections

Bulgarian parliament voted down at first reading amendments to the Constitution moved by the National Movement for Surge and Stability which would make it possible to hold the elections of European and national parliament on the same day.
The amendment was rejected 79-101 with nine abstentions. In order to pass, the motion needed a majority of two-thirds.
On Thursday Parliament also debated on draft resolutions amending the Rules of Organization and Procedure of the National Assembly. A first-reading debate on bills revising the Explosives, Firearms and Ammunition Control Act and a second reading of revisions of the Railway Transport Act were also on the agenda.
