BSE’s Market Capitalization Up 11% to 17 bln Leva Since The Beginning of the Year
Despite the decrease in the indexes over the past few weeks BSE’s market capitalization has went up 11% since the end of 2006 when it was 15.314 bln leva. As of May 10 market capitalization stands at 17.07 bln leva and accounts for 34.7% of the GDP. Market capitalization of the 20 biggest companies on the BSE is 11.67 bln leva or 68.38% of the total BSE cap.
The leading position is again held by the Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC) whose value is estimated at more than 3.13 bln leva or 18.35% of total BSE capitalization. It is still uncertain whether BTC will remain public after it was announced last week that Novator and Viva Ventures GmbH have signed an agreement with AIG Global Investment Group for the purchase of 65% of BTC.
Second and third in terms of market capitalization are Chimimport and Sopharma with 1.25 bln and 946 mln leva respectively representing 7.33% and 5.54% of the total market value. Since the beginning of the year both companies have withdrawn from their leading positions in unison with the market as a whole.
Next three positions are held by banks – Bulgarian American Credit Bank, Economic and Investment Bank and Central Cooperative Bank. The first two report similar figures – 870.7 mln and 822.7 mln respectively and CCB is lagging behind with 561 mln leva.
Eurohold Bulgaria AD could not make it into the top 20 its market capitalization being 0.5 mln leva less than that of IH Bulgaria. Here’s a list of the top 20 in terms of market capitalization:
